Growing up in Florida, the beach and the ocean were just a part of life. Like the grass and the sun, it was always there. I remember well the feeling of sand covered toes, warm sun, the taste of salty water. Riding home in our 1980s era Monte Carlo with the t-tops off, wind blowing and the smell of the sea on my skin. The ocean brought beauty, brought summer, brought happy.
VENTERS is a noun that describes what is brought to shore upon an ocean’s wave. A few years ago, I traded the Atlantic Ocean for the Pacific. This left coast has a wildness and unruliness about it-- so different from the quiet of the East. But so much intensity magnifies the peace and quiet that is brought. The beaches and coastal mountains are untamed-- cliffs, not condos dominate the coastal shore. And when the sun begins to melt down over the marine fog, for a time all is still and quiet and the waves once again bring joy. I hope these coastal inspired paintings do the same.
